GANDHINAGAR: Gujarat's strides in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, green energy, aircraft manufacturing and ancillary industries will be showcased at the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) to be held in January 2024. Chief secretary Raj Kumar had last month chaired the second review meeting on preparations for the mega business and investment summit. "Apart from green energy, semiconductors and aircraft manufacturing and allied industries, the Gujarat government will showcase plug-and-play industrial parks, and smart greenfield projects like Gift City, Dream City in Surat and the Dholera special investment region (SIR)," top officials said. "An entire day is likely to be allocated to promoting Gujarat as India's green energy hub. The strides being made in production of green hydrogen and other renewable sources of energy will be showcased to global leaders arriving for VGGS," sources said. With significant increase in solar and wind energy generation, Gujarat's renewable power generation capacity reached 7,739.67 million units (MU) in April-May 2023, representing a notable 23% increase compared from 6,288.61 MU in the same period last year. The state cabinet had recently approved a draft land allocation policy for green hydrogen projects. Over 1.99 lakh hectares have been designated for five key private sector players seeking to venture into green hydrogen production. This July, Gujarat hosted Semicon India 2023, where global and Indian players in the semiconductor industry participated. In June, US-based Micron Technology signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Gujarat government to set up a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Sanand.
